My husband I and signed up earlier this year and have been taking classes ever since. The instructors are absolutely phenomenal and are so welcoming. The amount of knowledge the instructors have is just mind blowing. I had never once thought I’d be learning Jiu Jitsu and actually be grasping it & enjoying it so much. Honestly before taking my two now 5 yr old twins here it was hard to control them without them yelling or running around like well crazy kids usually do. Now they are calmer kids who still act like kids but when given a task they can do that task with little guidance. They are doing well in school because they are used to listening and showing respect to their katate teacher and that carries over into school. We decided to sign them up for the black belt program because we knew that they liked it and showed the dedication needed to go to that program. Again 5 stars for a karate studio. They dont just teach karate like other places, they teach kids and even adults life lessons and making them better people.

From hair-grabs and choke-holds, to bear hugs and weapon defenses, the Women Empowered program covers it all.

Studying Gracie Women Empowered can help you get in the best shape of your life. It’s a great way to lose weight, tone your muscles, and learn the key things you need to know to be able to defend yourself – even against an opponent who’s larger than you are.

The Empowerment Mindset

Beyond the physical techniques, Women Empowered also reinforces awareness principles, risk assessment, and verbal and psychological strategies a woman can use to set safe boundaries with others – even if the perpetrator is someone she knows.

At the core of this mindset is the belief that we are worth defending!

Step 1: Learn the Techniques

We have divided the 20 Women Empowered techniques into 15 one-hour classes so that you can complete the course at your own pace. We designed each lesson so you can start the program at any time and complete the 15 lessons in any order.

Upon enrolling, we will issue you a Women Empowered attendance card on which we will track your progress every step of the way.

Step 2: Develop Your Reflexes

Once you complete each of the 15 Women Empowered lessons once, you will qualify to participate in the Reflex Development (RD) classes where you will learn how to combine the 20 techniques to address the most common occurrences in a real self-defense situation.

Step 3: Earn Your Pink Belt

Once you complete each of the Women Empowered lessons four times, and you’ve completed at least 8 Reflex Development Classes, you are eligible to test for promotion to pink belt! During this 30-minute test, we will assess your execution of all 20 essential techniques.

If your performance meets Gracie University standards, you will qualify for promotion to pink belt. As a pink belt, you will be more than ready to move on to the Gracie Combatives program should you choose to continue the jiu-jitsu journey!

Do I need to know jiu-jitsu or Judo to study Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

No, you don’t. There are beginner classes available and many of the people who study Brazilian Jiu Jitsu have no prior martial arts training.

Do I need any special equipment to study Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?

Students typically wear a Gi (two-piece garment worn by martial artists.) It is also typical for some students may want to wear a mouth guard. It’s a good idea to have a supply of athletic tape, as well.

As a beginner, do I need to spar?

No. Beginner classes focus on teaching basic techniques and safety, and you can then work your way up to controlled sparring in class.

Can Brazilian Jiu Jitsu help me defend myself?

Absolutely. It’s one of the world’s most effective self-defense techniques and is often preferred because it teaches students to leverage their body weight to defeat larger opponents.
